In a strategic effort to bolster collaboration and enhance operational efficiency, Comptroller Benedict Oramalugo, PhD, the Customs Area Controller of Seme Area Command, has initiated a series of courtesy visits to key traditional leaders and security agencies in Badagry, Lagos State.
Conducted between 19 and 20 February 2025, these visits underscore the Command’s steadfast commitment to building strong stakeholder relationships, reinforcing security measures, and streamlining trade facilitation in the region.
During his engagements, Comptroller Oramalugo paid tribute to the Oba Akran of Badagry and the Oba of Iberoko, acknowledging the critical role that traditional institutions play in maintaining peace and stability. He also stressed the importance of a unified approach between Customs and local authorities in fostering a secure and conducive environment for legitimate trade.

As part of its drive to improve inter-agency cooperation, the Customs boss visited key security units, including the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, the Nigerian Army 243 RECCE Battalion Regiment, the Nigerian Police Division in Badagry, and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps. During these engagements, discussions focused on enhancing intelligence-sharing, strengthening border security, and adopting a more coordinated approach to combating smuggling and other transborder crimes.
Comptroller Oramalugo underscored that effective collaboration among stakeholders is fundamental to the Command’s strategy for optimizing revenue generation, fortifying border security, and contributing to national development.

In his words, ‘Our mission at Seme Area Command goes beyond revenue collection—it includes ensuring national security and driving economic growth. Establishing robust partnerships with traditional institutions and security agencies is essential to meet these goals,’ he said.
He recalled, ‘When I was assigned to the Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, the CGC instructed me to engage with all sister agencies and forge synergies with them to effectively counter smuggling in this region.’
He continued, ‘I rely on your collaboration here at Seme Command for our success. I want your commitment that whenever we face overwhelming smuggling challenges, you will be ready to assist us in combating them.

“I am here to forge collaboration with other security agencies, aiming to replicate the success I’ve achieved in other commands. Ultimately, we are all in service to the Nigerian State,” he concludes.
