APM TERMINALS APAPA AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS TO 45 UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS FROM HOST COMMUNITY
APM Terminals Apapa, Nigeria’s largest container terminal, has awarded scholarships to 45 undergraduate students from its host community, Apapa, as part of its corporate social responsibility and commitment to education and youth development.
The beneficiaries, students from public universities across the country, were recognized at an award ceremony held in Lagos on Tuesday. Additionally, scholarships were granted to the children of five frontline employees of the company.
Speaking at the event, Terminal Manager Steen Knudsen reaffirmed APM Terminals Apapa’s dedication to making a lasting impact in the community. He emphasized the company’s belief in education as a catalyst for progress, aligning with its mission to improve lives and foster development.
“Our vision is to expand this initiative significantly. Today, we are supporting 45 students, but in the next 4-5 years, we aim to increase this number to over 250. Education is the foundation of the future, and we are proud to invest in the next generation of leaders,” Knudsen stated.
Beyond scholarships, APM Terminals Apapa has actively supported education in its host community. The company previously renovated and upgraded Randle Secondary School, Apapa, equipping it with modern facilities to enhance learning.
In addition to its educational initiatives, the company is also launching a technical training program for female mechanics in partnership with the Lady Mechanic Initiative, a non-governmental organization dedicated to empowering women with professional skills.
At the ceremony, Head of People Function, APM Terminals Nigeria, Uzoma Ben-Ude, encouraged the scholarship recipients to strive for excellence and seize the opportunities presented to them. She highlighted the importance of resilience and hard work in achieving success.
Senior People Business Partner and Scholarship Program Lead, Omolara Olatunbosun, described the scholarship as a recognition of the students’ academic achievements and character. “These students stood out among over 150 applicants due to their determination and perseverance,” she noted.
Applauding APM Terminals Apapa for its contribution to education, Apapa Local Government Chairman, Hon. Idowu Senbanjo, urged other companies in the area to adopt similar initiatives. She also advised the beneficiaries to remain dedicated to their studies and use the scholarship as a stepping stone for future success.
Representing the Port Manager of Lagos Port Complex Apapa, Port Legal Adviser Maxwell Maduakolam commended APM Terminals for its commitment to education and encouraged the students to remain focused on their goals.
Several scholarship recipients expressed their gratitude to APM Terminals Apapa for the life-changing opportunity. Ebuwa Ekin-noma Blessing described the scholarship as a transformative support, while Lagos State University student Ige Akindenuola emphasized its potential to create lasting positive impacts. National Open University of Nigeria student Nansoh Melody also acknowledged the scholarship’s role in advancing her education.
